Celestron AstroMaster 70AZ
The classic sub-$200 first refractor.
around $110
A 70mm long-tube refractor on a simple alt-azimuth mount — the default answer to 'what's a good cheap first telescope?' for a decade. Won't rival an 8-inch Dob, but the Moon and planets look great and it's dead easy to use.

Why we like it
- Very affordable entry point
- Refractor — no collimation ever
- Lightweight and portable
Keep in mind
- 70mm limits deep-sky views
- Basic mount is wobbly at high power
- You'll outgrow it
